Finding More Greatness
This is a Test
I’ve often been told that I shouldn’t send things out on Sunday.
Everything I send out is on a Sunday.
New podcast episodes.
New newsletter.
Am I missing the mark?
A Little Extra Greatness
Since you’re hear, I wanted to share a little something with you.
Based on a previous poll, the pillar of greatness most of you struggled with was Work.
What I’ve found is that this happens because we make the work too much.
We overwhelm ourself and decide it’s just easier to quit.
Next time you set out to take on a task try this.
Break the work into manageable blocks.
Set a time line for each block (only one block at a time).
Stop worrying about the whole project.
1. The first thing is important because when we look at the whole problem we’re working through it can seem too big.
We think I can never do all that.
We’ve already lost.
By breaking the work into smaller more manageable tasks, we trick our brain.
It’s the same as when we’re on a hard hike.
Thinking about going another 5 miles is a lot.
But thinking about taking one more step.
Then one more step.
Then one more step.
That is a lot less daunting.
2. Give yourself plenty of time for each task.
Don’t stretch yourself too thin.
Also, don’t try to start a new task until the first one is complete.
By doing one thing at a time our attention is focused on that task and we will do better work.
Often the more things we try to do at once the less we get done and the more sloppy our work.
Stay focused on one thing.
3. Don’t be distracted by the entire project.
When I’m writing a book I don’t look at the whole project.
I focus on a single chapter at a time.
I write in small chunks.
Then overtime it becomes a book.
If I were to look at the whole book I would easily lose interest and become frustrated with how long it takes.
If you can do small chunks of work.
Stick to your timeline.
And stay focused on one task.
The completion of your project will take care of itself.
There’s not shortcuts to completing our tasks.
We can; however, make the tasks more inviting.
Our perspective can change everything.
Let me know how this goes next time you have “a lot” of work to get done.
