I can be changed by what happens to me. But I refuse to be reduced by it.

Behind the Pillar

  • Resilience

There are many times in life when you question if you’re on the right path.

You wonder if the actions you are taking are even making a difference.

You feel as though you’re busting your butt, but no matter how hard you work, it just doesn’t seem to make a difference.

You’re still stuck in the storm.

You can’t seem to gain any momentum.

The odds are stacked against you.

Recently, I felt this way.

I felt this way about my content creation.

About my coaching.

About our new network at NGBN.

I felt as if no matter what I did, I couldn’t find my way out of the storm.

Even though I felt as if I had been climbing strong and fast for months, I wasn’t at the top yet.

Storms are a part of every journey.

There’s no avoiding them.

Going around them just doesn’t make sense in the long run.

But when you find yourself in the mess of it.

When the storms start to rage.

Don’t stop.

Now is not the time to turn around and head back.

You’ll just be stuck in the storm longer.

Keep pushing forward.

Take one more step.

All storms end and this too shall pass.

Coaches Corner

  • Building Resilience

Learning how to be more resilient is a powerful skill.

It gives us the ability to endure.

To bounce back.

To overcome.

Without being resilient we break down easily and give up.

Instead of learning from our failures, we give into them.

So, how do we develop more resilience?

There are 3 things I do that help shape my resilience.

  1. Do something hard daily

Whether that’s a workout, cold exposure, follow a strict diet, fast, it doesn’t matter.

It’s about doing something that you dislike.

Your mind tells you that you really don’t want to do this, but you do it anyway.

For me this is making sure I follow through on my workouts and cold exposure.

No matter how many times I get in the cold, I still don’t want to.

  1. Practice failing twice

Every time you fail, is an opportunity to develop resilience.

I have a rule that if I fail, I immediately have to do the thing again.

Right now.

No waiting.

No excuses.

This forces me to bounce back immediately.

If I get it right on the second time I keep moving.

If I fail twice, I make an adjustment and try again.

  1. What did you learn?

The same reason I like to immediately act when I fail is why I ask what did I learn.

Too often we get stuck in our failures.

We see our failures and think that we’re a failure.

But, a simple shift in our mindset can allow us to look past our failure.

To focus on what we learned instead of an outcome.

Outcomes are not within our control.

Take some time this week and start building your resilience muscle.

I know you won’t regret the results.

A World of Greatness

I’ve been working on a new project that I’m really excited about. It’s called The Everyday Father: Family, Fitness, and Fatherhood. These last few months working from home, being with my kids, trying to launch businesses, renovating the kitchen, dealing with winter, have opened my eyes to the challenges a lot of busy dads deal with.

We need to prioritize health and start to take care of ourself to we can consistently show up the way we’re needed. This show is about fitness and family, with a splash of fatherhood to share my experiences with fitness as a father. Come join me and start making progress towards being the most fit version of yourself.

Follow along on YouTube, Instagram, and Facebook.

This is a fun video about leadership and how to develop your ability to lead others. I might only enjoy this because it starts with one of my greatest leaders of all time, Ted Lasso, but I still enjoyed the video.

Side note, if you’ve not watched Ted Lasso yet, today’s a great day to start!

Need a Coach?

As an athlete I always appreciated good coaching.

It often made the difference between a successful season and an average one.

When you’ve got big goal to compete at the highest level, it helps to have someone looking at the big picture, while you focus on the specific actions.

Have you got something big coming up?

Need someone to help organize the path forward?

Let me know what you’re working on and we’ll see if I’m the right fit.

I've spent the last 15 years working with clients as a personal trainer and coach helping them build healthy sustainable habits.

During this time I've learned the psychology of habit creation, the power of systems, and why simple works better.

I'd love to help you reach your goals.

I'm currently looking to add 2 new coaching clients to my roster.

If this sounds interesting to you, connect with me today and let's schedule a call to see if we're a good fit for each other.
