Deciding what not to do is as important as deciding what to do.

2 Lessons

  • Creating Organizational Success

With having just moved and trying to get settled into a new routine there is a lot on my plate.

  1. Create new routine

  2. Write newsletter

  3. Publish podcast episodes

  4. Organize and plan Summit

  5. Find clients

  6. Edit new book

  7. Find teams to work with

  8. Email coaches

  9. Organize office

  10. Set up house

I could keep going, but I think you get the point.

There’s a lot of things I need to try to address.

If I try to think of all of these things at once I immediately become overwhelmed.

It’s too many things to figure out at once.

I’m sure you have a similar list of things you have going on.

It probably feels never ending and like you’re never going to get anywhere on getting things done.

I’ve been there.

However, I’ve found a solution that works for me.

After I spend some time writing everything down on paper.

In no particular order.

I take that list and pick out the most important 3 things.

What needs done now.

What needs your attention today, this week, this month

After I pick 3 things that are my most important tasks, I put the rest away.

3 things doesn’t ever feel overwhelming to me, no matter how big the project is.

I can do 3 things.

As I finish a task I return to my list and add a new item in.

Then each week I audit my list.

I see what I have left.

I remove tasks or items that are no longer important.

I add new items in.

By focusing on what’s most important now and shortening my list I increase my productivity and reduce my stress.

Give this exercise a try and see if it works for you.

We often don’t fail at getting things done because we’re not capable, we fail because we become overwhelmed and believe it to be impossible.

  • Finding Time

I took about a month off from traditional weight lifting during my move.

I hadn’t planned on taking that long of a break, but moving takes time.

In that time I worked in other ways.

I did lots of push ups.

Heavy carries and walks were common.

Picking up boxes is like a deadlift.

When I finally got back to lifting I felt pretty strong still.

It was nice to know that I didn’t lose a whole lot on that end of things.

What I did notice though is my personality shifted.

I wasn’t as patient.

I felt more stressed and anxious.

There was an edginess to me.

I think it’s often overlooked how important our exercise habits are.

Not just for our physique, but our mind.

I started back working out this week.

My mind immediately felt more clear.

I felt my anxiety dissipate and I haven’t felt stressed all week.

I’m motivated to get work done and I’m excited about the upcoming challenges ahead.

Finding time in your busy schedule for exercise has more benefits than just looking better.

According to several research studies exercise can also:

  • Reduce stress

  • Lower feelings of depression

  • Improve mood and overall well-being

  • Increase energy

  • Improve sleep

  • Create feeling of control

These are just a few things.

And I can say from first hand all of them are true.

As someone who’s not taken more than a few days off from exercising in 20+ years, this month off was my longest stretch I can remember.

And in just that short time, I noticed all of these things slipping.

But amazingly, after my first day exercising I noticed a change.

I felt better and more like myself.

Everything has since improved.

If you’re having trouble finding ways to work exercise into your life let me know.

I’d be happy to talk to you about some training options that might work for you.

Get out there and get moving.

Mind, Body, Spirit

Mind:

Curious about what exercise can do for your mind? Check out this video about the benefits of exercise on your mind.

Body:

This week I thought it would be fun to include a 20 minute in home workout video. This workout you can follow along and move at your own pace. It’s guided for the whole workout. Give it a shot and let me know how it goes.

Spirit:

This video doesn’t exactly dive into a spiritual connection this week, but I thought it was inline with what I was talking about this week. It’s a TED Talk about fitness and I think you’ll appreciate this message. Check the video out here.
